First Impressions: Bey Gives It To Us Two Times...Like Always

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

The Beyonce Stans are letting their weaves fly today as the singer unleashed her new singles to the masses today. The singles, from the as-yet-untitled third effort, "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies" made waves when first announced back in late August...so now all the stans can exhale and cream away as Beyonce, of course, rises to the occasion. I have had my scruples about Bey as she's flashy but isn't giving an inkling of being a groundbreaking artist for the music history books...yet. We'll have to see...but focusing on the present gives us a clearer picture of the future. First off, the Tony Gad produced, "If I Were A Boy" is a sering pop-rock ballad which IMO is Bey's best bet since 2003's "Crazy In Love". Bey actually tries on a new pair of shoes and wins with it's carefully placed lyrics and brooding symphonic appeal...till she steps back in typical territory with "Single Ladies". While the Tricky Stewart and The Dream produced track is infectious, it brings nothing new to the table...this is the kind of song that has Bey take three steps back into mediocre hip-hop dance fare...some are saying it sounds like "Get Me Bodied 2", I, the Audio Diva says it sounds like every other hip-hop dance song on the radio today. Bey you had me at "If I Were A Boy" and then you lost me with "Single Ladies"...now on to having another album shoved down our throats. Ah...just in time for the holiday season...
