First Impressions: GaGa Gadget GO!

Friday, October 24, 2008

There are many pop artists out there and they are all doing the same thing that Lady GaGa is doing. Still what separates Lady G from the rest of the pack is that she actually doesn't take herself too seriously and she doesn't skimp on the feverish-dance 'til you smell like a musty horse pop confections. Oh, and she wrote them all and has a killer platinum blonde wig...she wins. On the New York native's debut, The Fame, Lady GaGa (whom got her awesomely bad name from a Queen song, "Radio Ga Ga") gives some CPR treatment to American pop music. Seriously, straight-up American pop music has been suffocated by pop stars opting to be "hardcore" and throw a rapper on track after track. Or we've been leaving pop music up to children who just aren't remotely listenable (The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus collectively). Just listen to the insanely infectious summer jam that was foolishly overlooked by radio, "Just Dance" and you'll hear why I'm preaching Lady G's gospel. The jolt of "Just Dance" is just the beginning of what The Fame has in store. From the quirky throbs of "Poker Face" and the filthy good, "Beautiful Dirty Rich", The Fame is chock-filled with songs that will sure enough be tattooed in your brain. The spacey Reggae of "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" and the thundering clap and pound of "Paparazzi" are strong cuts. Lady G's debut is a luxurious and heavily glamorous pop affair that is sure to jump start the pop doldrums. Once you partake in The Fame you'll will be voicing at ad nasuem: Why isn't she bigger and outselling pop tarts left and right? The verdict is still out on that, but just know that pop hasn't sounded this brash and vibrant in years. Open your mouth wide and get a fistful of glitter and energy fueled pop treats, courtesy of Lady GaGa.
