First Impressions: Mercy's Got A Play Cousin!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

British soul vocalist, Duffy doesn't need an introduction. She's got a high-pitched whine yet oddly soothing vocal chops, a blonde beehive and a catchy first single ("Mercy"). It was no suprise that the success of "Mercy" and her debut album, Rockferry would boil over into "Hey, let's re-release the album to dupe people and get more money!!" territory. Rockferry Deluxe Edition will be hitting stores, November 17th, but in the meantime Duffy is hard at work toting around another single that is to lure you buy the expanded edition (which will include seven...cound 'em new tracks!). "Rain On My Parade" is a classy little number still filled with that grandiose 60's symphonic appeal...but it does sound a smidge of a lot like "Mercy". Still, should that stop you from downloading it via iTunes? Naw. It's Duffy, for crying out loud! Even though she's being viewed as a placeholder for the buddy of white lines, Amy Winehouse, Duffy's still got a hold on folks with her infectious tunes and her revival of the golden days of soul. Play on sista!
