Kevin Michael Calls Out All 'Vocalizers'

Sunday, October 26, 2008

It's a crying shame that Kevin Michael's self-titled 2007 debut CD has been subjected to the dusty bargain bins. I should know...I saw it there yesterday when I went used CD/vinyl hunting with my diva, Lindsay. $7.77 they were selling it for...for shame. It's a good slice of ambitious funk n' R&B that should've gotten a bit more attention. Aside from that, it was quite a pleasant surprise to come across this interesting diss track from the Jupiter-sized afro sportin' singer. "Vocalizer" is Kevin saying exactly what's been on the tip of any true-blue music fan: Why are the some of the worst-most untalented hacks getting the most airplay and clout? True that. What's even more hilarious is that he chose to do the diss song in the form of Britney Spears's current #1 single, "Womanizer". Sometimes I think diss tracks are trite, but this one is quite hilarious as Kevin sings intentionally bad and takes a stab at the music industry who supports these types of "acts". While I think Kevin doesn't have the *ahem* status of the stars he's calling out, I think it's quite ballsy to challenge this.
