"The Night You Murdered Love"-ABC (1988)

No, I'm not depressed about love, though I do feel that sometimes there are some men out there who have literally slaughtered the image of what love should be...but I could write novels about that...let's get to the root of the matter....Nothing will never ever touch the elegant funk of the 1983 new wave classic, The Lexicon of Love and I wonder if ABC (or rather front man, Martin Fry) know that. They got seemingly close to replicating the sound of Lexicon on their 1988 album, Alphabet City but still it wasn't the same...especially after the doldrums of albums like How To Be A Zillionarie! and Beauty Stab which left me high n' dry, save for a few cuts. On "The Night You Murdered Love", ABC redeem themselves as they go back to the sophistication of Lexicon, but with a more New Jack state of mind. Former Chic member, Bernard Edwards gives this song some slick production and it feels like musical velvet well...with some funk juice splashed on it's exterior. ABC were all about the sophisticated nature of soul, hence the addition of a symphonic sound and the whimsical lyrical content. White British boys can funk just as well as Bootsy Collins...well, minus the leather studded suit....

Her eyes...damn she's creepy...I also don't know why I find Martin Fry quite attractive...must be the suit...sometimes I wish guys would wear suits more often, but that's just me...
