First Impressions: Toni Breaks The Ice With New Single

Sunday, November 16, 2008

After Toni Braxton was prematurely (IMO) kicked off of Dancing With The Stars, she figured it was time for her to come back to the music scene. A new song from her entitled, "Melt (Like An Iceberg)" leaked over the weekend and it's slated to be on her upcoming follow-up to 2005's Libra. The song was produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and it's a stirring and sensual number that is in perfect Toni mid-tempo format. Actually, I like the song even though it's kind of simple and not earth-shattering as some were hoping for. Still we must remember that Toni's signature style is indeed butter smooth soul and she always does that well. Here's hoping this is not the first single though, if she wants to make a proper comeback, a more up-tempo joint might get some traction. Looking forward to Toni's return as good-old fashion lovey-dovey songs have been MIA in...well, months. Toni's new album is to feature contributions from Keri Hilson, Babyface, Red One and Soulshock & Karlin and will hopefully not suffer the same fate that Libra took.
