The Gospel: TRL Goes "Bye Bye"...I Mourn The Passing

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

At this point and time, I'm listening to *NSYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart". Why you ask? It's so I can use my special mind powers to channel a miracle that the boy band five some will get together on TRL's final show and do a synchronized dance to know for old time sake. MTV announced back in September that they are indeed killing my teenybopper years by pulling the plug on their long running video countdown show, TRL. They have decided to be kind though and invite a gaggle of TRL superstars for the final show. Artists such as Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, Nelly, Snopp Dogg, Diddy and even Mariah Carey will all be making appearances on the final show, which will air this Sunday, November 16th. The two hour show will chronicle the shows glory days when they showed a *gasp* full music video and actually counted them down, as well as interviewed their musical guests. This whole announcement got me feeling nostalgic for those days where I would collect those teen pop rags (Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, Bop, Right On!...horrible horrible names) and my neighborhood friend and I would trade the pictures for our shared *NSYNC scrapbook *face palm* Yes, those were my good old days. Now with TRL leaving the picture, it feels like my teen-years is officially kaput. I should've known when I first plopped my suitcase on my college dorm bed four years ago, but it didn't marinate just yet. Still the last good phase of MTV is saying farewell and it should be quite an interesting reunion worthy to lift the ban I've had on the channel for a good three years. Here's hoping that Mariah Carey brings some ice cream and someone busts out some synchronized dancing.

  1. omg. must download. i wish we got TRL in Canada :(

  2. TRL was 10 times better back in the late 90's into the early 2000's...that was the time to really watch it! Once the host, Carson Daly left, it went downhill...seriously downhill, still I'm just glad that they are acknowledging the musicians who made TRL the hit it was...still they are missing 2 members of *NSYNC (Justin, JC and Lance have all confirmed apperances), they need to bring them ALL back!

  3. We used to see bits of it over here, when MTV actually showed music programmes and not reality stuff. Then the UK got their own version and I remember being glued to that show cos the Backstreet Boys were on.

As you can probabaly guess, the Backstreet Boys are my group. NSYNC were ok, but they were not the BSB, that's probabaly why I couldn't get into that group. BSB were 'the one' for me.

*Honks happy horn and does dance*
