The Gospel: Will Fuse Lose The Spark Once The Hall Of Fame Moves In?

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Giggle all you want but Fuse is the silent solider in music viewing right this second. While other "music" channels have abandoned their roots, Fuse still keeps in mind that music is at the core part of their curriculum. Even when they thrust an obligatory reality show at us, such as the newly aired, Redemption Song, it is still musically related (take note MTV). Now Fuse may be getting a hefty boost as the channel has signed a three year deal to host the legendary Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Quite nifty, eh? While Fuse has had it's share of emo slick side-swept bangs, they have since shifted their focus to more of a mainstream appeal by also feature pop, R&B and hip-hop acts. This type of deal is a real good look for the channel as this could get them added exposure. Especially since next years inductees range from Run DMC, Bobby Womack, WAR, Metallica, Jeff Beck and Chic...talk about diversification! Still Fuse began in 2003 as kind of the "alternative" music viewing channel. A kind of hideaway for those, like myself, who were looking for something a bit unique than what was being served up on other music channels. Fuse was never the flashy perky cheerleader on campus...they are the cigarette in mouth guy viewing all the action from afar. Hopefully, with this new deal, the channel will not lose it's spark and continue to be a break from monotony as well as give a variety of music in the process. Plus if they got rid of The Weekly Riff, I'd go emo and write some poetry about my feelings....
