Song Stuck In My Head: Pride Goes Before A Fall

Friday, November 14, 2008

While Daryl Hall got criminally shunned from that so-called Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Singers list (along with a dozen others), I wanted to give the man some respect. Daryl Hall could sing my utilities bill to me and I'd be thoroughly engaged, that's how much I love his voice. While Daryl did best when he was joined with buddy John Oates, he did some interesting and entertaining things all on his own. His 1986 second solo album, Three Hearts In The Happy Ending Machine (say that three times fast) was recorded during the height of Hall & Oates mania and though it's produced by Eurythmics member Dave Stewart, there still alot of good ole Philly Soul laced in it. I've always had a fondness for the song, "Foolish Pride" possibly because it sounds the most "Hall and Oates-ish" on the album but really it's just an infectious finger snapper that demands for you to sing along. Shame it didn't reach a higher chart slot back in '86 but it's still a gem of a track.

That neon blue tubing entrances me to no end...Daryl singing about messing up his hair always cracks me up, because his hair was so perfect back then...The guys in the yellow jackets, random or appropriate?
