Adventures In Irrelevancy: Jen's Shameless Christmas Wish List---Item #1

Friday, December 5, 2008

Ever since I've hit my early "adult" years, I'm through with being a Vercua Salt at Christmas time. I used to be the Queen of Dropping Hints and I used to tote along with me throughout the month of December the Toys 'R Us catalog with items circled with care. Now, I'm just all about getting some sleep and a good home cooked meal (hey, Stoffer's Panniis are NOT a food group) during the break. Still that little Vercua Salt creeps up on me every once in awhile during the Yuletide season...especially when I saw a couple of music related items I might want to see under my tree. So I'll drop the hints oh so subtly throughout this month...and maybe my little list will help you with your holiday shopping for your loved ones (or yourself). Just be relieved that I'm not asking for an Oompa Loompa...*shudder*

For an old school music lover like me...this is like diving into a pool of hot fudge ice cream. This sprawling 4 disc box set includes all the hits from the Philadelphia Soul circuit in its prime (1960-1983). I'm talking about Teddy Pendergrass, Three Degrees, The O'Jays, The Spinners, The Stylistics...shall I go on? It seems while browsing the tracklist that all the songs are here from the Spinner's "Rubberband Man" to Deneice Williams's "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" to Billy Paul's "Me & Mrs. Jones" to *gasps* "Love T.K.O." by Teddy...It's a collection to know that it's founding fathers, songwriters Kenneth Gamble, Thom Bell and Leon Huff were the real deal. This feels like a gift I should give my soul music loving father...but I don't know, I kind of want to be a Greedy Greta and have this for my very own...I mean I haven't seen a box set worth shelling out bucks for since I've been scoping that Kate Bush box set extravaganza.
