Cherrelle Didn't Mean To Turn King Kong On

I feel that everyone in the world should know who Cherrelle is. Well, not everyone, but I still feel that if you're cool like me...then you should revel in her existence. Why you ask...well her music is fun as hell for starters...Long before Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis worked magic with Janet Jackson, they gave Cherrelle a helping hand by producing most of her 1984 debut, Fragile. They ultimately gave Cherrelle one of her biggest and most well known hits, the funky get-down "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On". Since it's release there have been a couple who've tried to recreate it's magic. The late Robert Palmer did an embarrassing version of it in the late 80's and Mariah Carey did an exact carbon copy on the Glitter soundtrack...but still Cherrelle's version remains king. The video is all kinds of interesting as it features a take on the classic movie King Kong, but with a more comical mind frame...or so I thought it was. Cherrelle hunts in a fake jungle, saves Kingy by giving him a Band-Aid, and he returns the favor by breaking into her home and grabbing. Though cheap and cheesy this vid is...it's actually better than some shizz they call music vids nowadays. The truly diamond part of this video is when King Kong (or really a guy in a gorilla suit) gets on the roof of Cherrelle's apartment building and breakdances. Pop locking never looked so priceless.
