Cover Smother: "You Make Me Feel Alive, Alive, Alive!"

Monday, December 22, 2008

The art nerd in me (thanks to my Mom) likes an album cover that looks like it could fit right in with your decor. As the boys of Duran Duran were a stylish and "My shirt is pressed and starched" type of band, it seems fitting that their 1982 album, Rio looked avant garde. Not only is the contents of Rio important (hello..."Hungry Like The Wolf","Save A Prayer" etc.) the cover is as it is one of the most recognizable covers from the 80's...or really in all of rock music. The grinning chick is a painting done by none other than pop artist, Patrick Nagel, whose stark designs fit right into the mold of the polished and edgy 80's. So can if be safe to say this album, ushered in 80's style?...Hey, the girl is wearing some big earrings and sporting a monster 'do...you be the judge.
