Remember The Time: Every Video Needs Angela Winbush

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

This visual candy has almost all the elements of a perfect 80's video...
  • Driving a sports car/motorcycle in the urban desert
  • A random chick in a wig dancing
  • Black gloves and a gold lame jacket
  • A tiger print glitter jacket w/matching skinny tie
  • A performance on stage, but with no audience
  • Lots of hungry soulful stares
  • A spinning synthesizer
  • Angela Winbush
Okay...well, Angela Winbush isn't in every perfect 80's vid, but she should be as this woman can sing like nobody's business. Rene & Angela were one of those great duos of R&B who made timeless quiet storm ballads such as "You Don't Have To Cry" and "Your Smile" all while looking quite stylish. On their last effort, 1985's Street of Desire, the duo released this little ditty, "I'll Be Good" which has a nice little synth groove. I'm still quite surprised that the bigger uptempo from the Street album, "Save Your Love (For Your #1)" didn't get music video treatment. It had rapper Kurtis Blow on it for crying out loud...ah, well, still "I'll Be Good" is a cool little slice of video magic.
