Remember The Time: You Give Me Funky Love

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Oooh, la la, the early 90's...this takes me back to L.A. Gear shoes, watching Clarissa Explains It All and doing the pogo-stick dance to acts like Black Box, Ace Of Base and sigh, Haddaway. Yes...I remember and that's why I'm recalling the tunes of Cathy Dennis. Long before she cranked out hits for Britney Spears ("Toxic") and Kylie Minogue ("Can't Get You Out Of My Head"), Miss Dennis released her debut album, Move To This in 1990 with four top singles. Most know of her biggie club jam, "Touch Me (All Night Long)"and her lovey-dovey, "Too Many Walls". The track, "Just Another Dream" is my personal favorite from the Move To This set and it's video is comprised of hellishly bright Day-Glo colors. Plus lots of striking poses, hair dishevelment and muscle men flexing. It reminds me off all those brightly colored dance videos from the 90's, you know like Ce Ce Peniston's "Finally" and Dee-Lite's "Groove Is In The Heart"...Still if you haven't become hip to Cathy's debut, catch up and buy it, it's a 90's dance-pop delight that will rock your face off.
