Album Watch: Leela Is To Be Doing It Again This April

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Hello stranger! It's been awhile since we've heard the whereabouts of Miss Leela James. Since the release of her stellar 2005 debut, A Change Is Gonna Come, Leela has been opting to go incognito by performing at cozy venues and switching record labels. Now in 2009, she's returning with her long awaited sophomore disc, appropriately titled, Let's Do It Again. The Los Angeles bred singer switched from Warner Brothers to the more independent Shanachie Records in recent years. James is said to be serving up a steaming plate of that soul comfort food she's known for as she has been digging in the crates of The Staples Singers, Angela Bofill and Bobby Womack for influence. Oooh, la, la, that sounds fabtastic! With the wave of 60's and 70's inspired soul that has been spilling out of the recording studios as of late, it's kind of shocking that Leela hasn't latched on to folks radar. She is a voice to be reckoned with. Let's Do It Again will be hitting the shelves come April of this year.
