First Impressions: Daniel and Adele Will Break Your Heart

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

My short-term prayers have been answered. For the past couple of days, I have been consumed with bleeps and static shocks of pop and techno...while it's too my liking, I was still craving a bit o' soul magic. A song that could wrap me in its searing grandeur and warm me up from the frigid synths that have been blistering my ears. The duet between Aussie vocalist, Daniel Merriweather and the divine Adele, is the song that became the soulful blanket I craved. While the track, "Water and a Flame" is a heartbreaking number, it's oh so riveting and rekindles that feeling of an honest old school soul duet. Daniel and Adele's vocals blend together wonderfully over the haunting strings and dragging drums. The two manage to hit a nerve as the song rises to it's thundering climax, and it's quite a moment. The track, which is featured on Daniel's upcoming, Love and War, is sure to get folks reminiscing about the days when a break-up tune actually felt like a stab in the heart.
