First Impressions: Usher Gets In The Groove With The Neptunes

Monday, May 25, 2009

What's a guy to do when he released uninspired dreck about a year ago? You enlist The Neptunes to get your groove back on track, that's what you do. Usher gets smart and goes back to basics for his new single, "What's A Guy To Do", which is produced by Pharrell Williams and Co. The track is slated to be on Ursh's new album entitled, Monster. The song is a nice mid-tempo that is truly in a Michael Jackson Off The Wall state of mind but it fits Usher like a well...glove. Let's just hope that the rest of the album's material amounts up to a name like "monster", as it sounds like with this number he's going back to what made albums like 1997's My Way and 2004's Confessions modern R&B so great. With "What's A Guy To Do", Usher stops conforming and being overtly flashy (see "Love In This Club") and brings back that classic R&B that seems to be missing from the mainstream. Now this is more like it. Monster will be unleashed this Fall.
