Artist Watch: The Emily King Song I Kind Of Missed...

Friday, July 17, 2009

She took us for a 'walk in her shoes' and gave us insight to her 'east side story', but a Grammy nomination and two years later, soul sista Emily King is close to having her face plastered on the universal milk carton for MIA musicians. Well, I shouldn't be so blunt as there have been news bites here and there of Emily touring and performing at events and the like...and yes, she was dropped from J Records...but c'mon like you had to be Sylvia Brown to predict that as we now who is the queen on that label. Yet, whenever, it's been almost too quiet on the musical front for an artist that I adore, I tend to morph into Veruca Salt and I get a little fussy. So digging a little deeper, I combed the interwebs to find some sort of info that would give me comfort to if she is indeed planning to drop that sophomore effort. So after some brief hunting, the song "Second Avenue" popped up and silly goose me, this song has been floating around since March. *headdesk* The track is, in short, some fine acoustic soul, and it manages to fill the void for awhile (even the cute video of Emily's drawings brought a little smile to my face) but as cliche as it sounds...I want more dammit! Still "Second Avenue" gave me a spark of hope that Emily hasn't quit her stride and is possibly gearing up for a second effort. Or so I wish...

  1. This is absolutely lovely. I bought her CD for like 4 bucks when Circuit City went out of business. I love it.
