First Impressions: In The Land of 'Milk and Honey'

Monday, July 13, 2009

Talk about some sweetness. Goapele hasn't gotten her moment on the Adventures...well, that has all changed today. The Bay Area soul sista is working on a follow-up to her fantastic 2005 album, Change It All and it's being dubbed the delicious sounding, Milk and Honey. Hungry? Your stomach should be growling, especially since the title track has leaked from the project. A couple of months back a snippet of "Milk & Honey" was leaked, but you know me, I have to hear the stuff in full to make a true opinion. The full version of "Milk & Honey", which was produced by Bedrock, rides on a electro-hip-hop groove and it glistens with sensual flair. I do have a feeling that some soul purists will slam this song for sounding too generic or even being beneath anything Goapele has done in the past, but actually this works for her. And yes, to address the elephant in the room, there is some slight auto-tune mixed in but, to me, its not jarring or even that noticeable. Nevertheless, this stark sound is quite an intriguing turn for Miss Goapele, and I'm interested in where she takes Milk and Honey. So if you like what you hear below, you're in luck because Goapele is giving the track away for free. You can download it here and keep an eye out for Milk and Honey as it drops later this year.

  1. I really dig this song! If this is what her new album will sound like, I'm very excited for that
