Remembering Michael Jackson, The Musical Way

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Today is a day of mourning as the King of Pop was laid to rest. His musical legacy was celebrated and remembered at the memorial service that was televised nationwide and featured a bulk of famous heavyweights who came out to pay their condolences and reminisce about Michael Jackson. A truly lovely and emotional affair, the memorial not only contained touching eulogies from the likes of Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson, but also musical tributes from music's shining stars. Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer, Mariah Carey, Usher and even Michael's brother, Jermaine Jackson, were some of the many who performed on stage and gave heartfelt and extremely moving performances. Moving indeed, as I completely lost my composure when Lionel Ritchie started singing, "Jesus Is Love" and when the tears ceased, Stevie Wonder came in and made my face look like I had a fight with an ink pen, thanks to me crying once again and ruining my mascara. Yes, these performances are that powerful. Luckily, there were some performances that brought joy, such as John Mayer's smooth jazz rendition of "Human Nature" and Jennifer Hudson's "Will You Be There", proved to be uplifting. And yes, Trey Lorenz, Moonwalked circles around Mariah Carey vocally during their classic duet of "I'll Be There", and that was another moment of mourning. So...if you'd like to play catch-up or re-watch these by all means enjoy the videos below.

Stevie Wonder "Never Dreamed You Leave In Summer"
