Artist Watch: Corrine Bailey Rae Set To Return In 2010

Monday, October 5, 2009

In 2006, you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Corrine Bailey Rae's sublime debut single, "Put Your Records On". The jubilant summer swing instantly put a smile on your face and forced you to wear a positive attitude on your sleeve. The song, along with her gorgeous eponymous debut, catapulted the guitar player from Leeds into the ranks of the elite British Soul invasion during that time. Rae's career was put in an understandable standstill after the death of her husband, musician Jason Rae in 2008. Corrine Bailey Rae opted to shy away from the musical spotlight, but now she is emerging to grace our ears with her lovely tunes yet again. In a recent candid interview with The Guardian, Corrine, now with a free flowing 'fro, discussed that she's been dealing with her tragic loss through the power of music, as well as takes us back to that moment where she learned of her husband's passing. Embedded in the interview is a video featuring Corrine discussing her new album and the music that is to be contained in it. Quite exciting news, especially since I thoroughly enjoyed Corrine's debut and was glad to see someone bringing back that singers-songwriter feel from the 1970's. You can read this interesting interview and watch the behind the scenes video here, and be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for Corrine's return.

  1. Oh cool, I didn't notice you'd already posted on this until looking through the site today. lol I was going to mention it to you.

I'm so excited for the new album, Corinne's a northerner like myself, so she is definitely representing here in the UK. Woo! *honks happy horn*

Her debut album still remains one of my favourite albums, I love it. Infact, it's the album I'm playing now, you could never grow tired of it, such a masterpiece.
