"Breakout" - Swing Out Sister (1986)

How about eternally etched in my brain? If I had theme music to all the times when something in my life was going right...Swing Out Sister's 1986 single, "Breakout" would be that theme track playing in the background. The horns blasting in a strident fashion, with those meaty synths in the background, all this musicality going on while I threw my beret hat up in the air by my university's fountain. Very Mary Tyler Moore style. This is a great little 80's relic, off of the group's debut album, It's Better To Travel, which features other lofty jazzy-pop tunes. The song, to my knowledge, was the group's biggest hit over here in the States as it hit the #6 chart position. The instrumentation is something to marvel on this as it just pops right on off where you can't help but wiggle in your seat and throw your hands up in the air. "Breakout", to me, is the definition of a great pop song, great rhythms, a positive vibe and its success of putting a goofy smile on your face. So here you go, a song that will compliment your feelings of Friday bliss when the work whistle signals the weekend has begun.
