'Tis The Season: Oh, By Gosh By Jolly, It's Faith Evans

Faith Evans has a Christmas album. Betcha didn't know that. Well, if you did, you get an extra snowman shaped cookie, just watch the crumbs. A Faithful Christmas is Miss Evans exercising her Christmas spirit with slathering her rich R&B butter over some holiday classics. In some space, I thoroughly enjoy that Faith took on a neglected holiday theme, "Mistletoe and Holly", even making it sound so Lawrence Welk like with its orchestration and the male harmonies. All that is missing is the bubbles, fur trimmed hoop dresses and flurries of plastic snow. The cheekiness of how its done is entertaining and you can't help but giggle and carol along.

Faith doesn't steer to far away into schmaltzy territory for too long as she sasses up for a rendition of Blues holiday favorite, "Merry Christmas, Baby." On another traditional front, Faith's take on "O Come All Ye Faithful" is almost like hearing an R&B song on the radio, yet with touches of Gospel mixed it. Plus it has a real laid back groove to it, subtracting the usual strident cathedral sound this holiday classic usually takes on. Three holiday favorites, done three varying ways, but done with such comfort n' joy by Miss Evans.

Mistletoe and Holly
O Come All Ye Faithful
Merry Christmas Baby
