Recycle It!: Alice Smith Isn't Foolin' Around

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

To ease on into the new is someone who I'm 'greatly expecting' to come to the surface this year and grace us with a new album as it has been a while since we've heard from this someone---but then again whose counting (*cough* five years)? That someone is Alice Smith. Here and there she pops up and gives us that rousing voice of hers, reminding us all why we fell in love with her style back in '06 with her debut, For Lovers Dreamers and Me. Here she is giving a little cover smother to Cee-Lo's "Fool For You", which was a favorite off of The Lady Killer. Smith says that this was done in one take and what you hear is 'what was captured in the room'. Without Phillip Bailey and Melanie Fiona for back-up, you can sort of second guess, thinking maybe Cee picked the wrong duet partner for this track, as Alice sounds righteously deeee-lightful on this and would be a neat contrast to Cee's vocals. We really should hear Alice's voice more often than we do.

This impromptu session happened before the holidays rolled in, but no time like the present to show it a little love.
