First Impressions: Do Ya Thing, Gorillaz & Andre 3000

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Somehow I kind of laughed out loud when I first saw Andre 3000 in that Gillette commercial during Superbowl weekend. Oh what talent wasted shilling shavers with Adrian Brody....but for seriousness, OutKast either needs to come back with a new album or Andre needs to take initiative like his pal Big Boi and release something on the solo tip---I mean, either one will do. So him saddling up with the Gorillaz and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy for a single to promote Converse's Three Artists. One Song. campaign is just sort of egging things on. Well, the good thing is Converse (you know the shoes---glad to be a proud owner of a still-wearable ten-year-old pair *pumps fist*) lassoed these artist to give us the energetic fiesta, "DoYaThing", which is guiltless and free to download. Pretty much, these campaign tracks are never that good (and mostly the hype is surrounding Andre's blistering flows), but if you're looking for a jolt of musical java then this might hit the spot. Also if you're a shoe junkie (like me!) you'll be interested in the four Gorillaz inspired Chucks that will be hitting a Journey's shop near you.
