First Impressions: Go On a 'Vacation' With Alphabeat

Thursday, March 15, 2012

It may just be coincidence but ever since I bought some bubble gum flavored Trident last week, I've been craving for just pop-till-you-drop-n-don't-stop tunes. So along comes Alphabeat to sort of continue in the bubble pop electric mood I've been in with their new track, "Vacation". No, it's sadly not Go-Go's cover, but in fact, Alphabeat give sort of the younger cousin version of that 1982 hit as it echos of Valley Girl days gone by. Just like their great 2009 single, "The Spell" it's all sorts of unabashed thowback synth fun and since it's Spring Break n' all here, this song perfectly captures the urge for the summer months to come quite well. Just listening to this, I feel like I'm Lisa Turtle taking in a soda at The Max with the rest of the Bayside High crew---it's that serious of a guilty pleasure.
