First Impressions: Gossip Gives a 'Perfect', Joyful Noise

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Beth Ditto is one of my favorite voices so naturally whenever I hear her doing something, I stop, drop everything, and listen. Instead of continuing on the solo tip like she did with her impressive Beth Ditto EP from last year, she's going back to her Gossip brood and releasing their follow-up to 2009's highly enjoyable, Music For Men this May.

From the album title, A Joyful Noise, has already got high expectations stacked on it, not to mention it being fully produced by Brain Higgins of Xenomania, who is responsible for a bulk of some of my super pop favorites from Annie to Sophie Ellis-Bextor to Dannii Minogue, and oh yeah, Kylie Minogue---so disappoint this album shouldn't.

While not as show-stopping as '09's "Heavy Cross" (what a single that was), "Perfect World" packs some heat with a engaging and space-y intro and some nice bass licks. Plus how can you not get wrapped up in Beth's voice? Betrothed you will be.
