Album Watch: Mar Exposes 'Seeing Her Naked' EP
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
Noted for being latched with the likes of co-horts Full Crate and FS Green, Mar has branched out on the solo grind hoping to keep his cult following at a flourish. Shame I haven't talked about this multi-talent who hails from the Netherlands more often, but to sort of usher in the welcome invitation, Mar has just released his debut solo EP, Seeing Her Naked, and from title alone the intrigue is raised for this sexual heal.
Since we always nag about the sour, soulless state R&B music is currently marinating in, Mar's 5-track EP delivers what has been missing from the genre---plain sensuality with heart. The rhythm is all there, as well as the blues, with Mar's lush falsetto as an accomplice to his sharp ability to spin the familiarity of the genre into a worthwhile new beginning. I have nothing but love for him doing so. In the wake of praise for collectives like The Weeknd, who tend to take the "love is so bleak n' brutal" approach in order to 'man-up' what the whiny boys of current mainstream R&B fail to capture, Mar doesn't fall into those pitfalls of the whiners and tortured soul guys.
Seeing Her Naked is a prime example of when you keep things sexy n' simple, not over-complicating the moment. Highlights for me are "Her Past" and "Understand The Game" as they breeze blissfully along in some neat notches of electro-R&B, but the whole thing is definitely an experience in itself that is worth a check out.
So the drill is simple---stream below, and download for free at Mar's web spot. Easy peasy.
