Album Watch: 'Once Upon Another Time' With Sara Bareilles
Monday, May 21, 2012
Throwing glitter in the air to the news that one of my favorite ebony n' ivory ticklers Sara Bareilles is releasing a brand-new EP this week. Bareilles has teamed up with her Sing-Off co-judge, Ben Folds to concoct the EP, Once Upon Another Time (that sounds so majestic...) and it's yet another compliment to this singer's body of work.
After taking a brief listen, Bareilles sticks to the piano-pop I adore from her, but takes a couple of risks as she wags a salty tongue in "Sweet As Whole" to where the lovely term "asshole" hasn't sounded so um...poetic. She's not all nasty as listening to the gorgeous structures of "Stay" and "Beautiful Girl" you can hear that Bareilles has come a long way since "Love Song". Consider this EP a big ol' tease as she dished to Rolling Stone recently that she's currently in the throws of making a follow-up to 2010's Kaleidoscope Heart with Sia and Greg Kurstin in talks for collaborations. Sounds neat-o. On a side note, isn't that a wonderful EP sleeve? It's so Instagrammy and gorgeous.
Before you scat, take in a live performance of "Beautiful Girl" from a gig last year to get into the key of Bareilles.
