Audio Vision: Joss Stone Serves Up Some Funky 'Teardrops'
Yeah, I'm still diggin' on you Joss Stone. Even though people like to forget that you actually predated the UK Soul Dame wave before Amy Winehouse came into our North Atlantic conscious, my junior year of high school was mucho better with "Super Duper Love (Are You Diggin' On Me?)" blasting in my ear. While others didn't even take the time of day to fully invest in you after Body Mind & Soul--I stuck by. I loved every bit of the eclectic electric of 2009's Colour Me Free---even though it featured probably the crappiest cover art work in music history---but what's is inside is what matters, right? For an album that was recorded in six days and produced by the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, LP1 was sure delish.
Still I'm glad that you are still truckin' with a sequel to your 2003 The Soul Sessions debut. The cover songs of Soul Sessions Vol. 2 looks great (Sylvia! Honey Cone! The Rolling Stones!) and yes, your Chi-Lites cover of "(For God Sake's) Give More Power To The People" is a fire roasted jam. Really, I'm all ears for this set, and oh, here you are covering one of my all-time favorite songs, Womack & Womack's 1989 hit, "Teardrops" which is to be on the album as well. Ah yes! That song I love to ease on happily down the road with and you just covered it so superbly live as seen in the visual above.
So yes, after all these years and criticisms from naysayers, I'm still diggin' on you Joss and am oh so ready for The Soul Sessions Vol.2 when it drops July 31st.
