Artist Watch: Rachel Claudio's Audio Love
There were just some exclamation points attached to a tweet from blogging buddy o' mine, Imande, and it concerned songstress, Rachel Claudio. So what did it all mean? It meant that this was urgent, undivided attention was needed, and an investigation into music euphoria was underway.
Hailing from Australia (what is in the water over there?), but residing in Paris, France, Rachel Claudio released her debut album, Claudiography last year and it's a righteous and soulful voyage with winning numbers such as "Dissertation" and "Blow My Mind". It also highlights the superb silk n' steel textures in Claudio's vocals, and it's the type of raw vocalizing that just wins me over. Squint and you might here a bit of Erykah Badu meets Nikka Costa in the swirl of her tone, but really, Ms. Claudio has got a big voice on her and she's using it.
Recently Claudio has dropped her self-produced, C.L.AUDIO TAPE, a (totally free) 30-minute funk-a-thon mixtape where she sings, raps, and entertains with uniquely re-imagined tracks from the varying likes of Michael Jackson, TLC, The Beatles, and Roxette. Personally, her dreamy take on TLC's "Waterfalls" and Player's "Baby Come Back" are highlights, but the full experience of the tape and Rachel Claudio's panache is worth your while as she lays on some serious ram-bam audio love that is meant to be heard....again and again...and again.
