First Impressions: Killers & Runaways
The 80's are alive and kicking on the brand-new single from The Killers. Sadly, the track isn't about group, The Runaways, but "Runaways" is however a slice of 80's arena rock that's glossy and "Springsteen"-y, while it sticks to the tried-and-true guitar n' sparkly synth formula that the boys of Vegas are known to have. Those who might have loathed the cruise ship gleam of what was on 2008's Day & Age, might be glad to know that "Runaways" is rolled around in the dirt some.
Nothing real ambitious here, but oddly, you tend to forgive The Killers because even when they are at their most stale---they aren't boring and probably one of the most consistent rock groups around. Okay, so I'd rather have Brandon Flowers stop with the Bruce Springsteen gamut and have them expand on what they did on Hot Fuss, but alas we can't always get what we want.
What we can get is the fourth album from The Killers, as Battle Born, will touch down September 18th. Hooray hurrah! Get an ear-full of "Runaways" after the cut.
