First Impressions: Marques Toliver's Got That Magic

Friday, July 20, 2012

After bridging classical and soul with his debut EP, Butterflies Are Not FreeMarques Toliver continues to drop gems to heighten anticipation for his long-awaited debut album---and this new one is a sparkler.

Anyone who's been walking down Toliver's rising career path has already caught wind of "Magic Look" as he has performed it live on several occasions. Now in it's single debut (geared for a proper release September 10th) we get to hear the studio version of "Magic Look" and boy oh boy is it wonderful.

Already have I played it four times cursing the calendar date for it's release, but still loving the simplicity and textures embedded in this mid-tempo stunner.

As expected, Toliver's violin playing is prominent throughout but really kicks up a storm during the song's final moments. Truly this is a work of soulful sophistication and you can experience it after the cut.
