Audio Vision: Jessie Ware Shines A Light

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Jessie Ware's "Night Light" is embedded in the rich folds of Devotion, and is a song that has grown in play time by me as the days roll on. I think I played it every day for a straight two weeks after Devotion came out because it's just so damn good. It's bombastic brilliance that let's Ware unleash those pipes of hers and it deserves to be a single. But I've said all of this before, and better too, but I'm reiterate for effect considering the music video came out and reminded me of it all.

Ware must have taken some sort of college course on Sade Adu as she's really achieving the whole 'be simple and sophisticated with a pensive gaze' that Miss Adu built a career on. It shows up more and more when it comes to the videos, videos that look pallid on the surface, but really have a bite of intrigue in them. Videos that us normal people watching feel like we're Hobbits living in The Shire or something. I mean, I feel like a clobbering sack of clumsy watching this artistic visual gem. In some spaces, the visual for "Night Light" reminds me some of Goapele's "Play"--- all monochromatic, abstract, and sexy. Ware just continues to seize the moment, it's just that I just wish more people actually knew about it...
