The name Skye Edwards didn't ring a bell, but her association to the band Morcheeba did, and then it all kind of clicked. The UK trip-hop band began their reign in the 90's and had a few tracks of note like "The Sea" and "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day".With a blush of embarrassment I have to say that I barely remember them, possibly because they are on the light side of the trip-hop scope, a scope where I was conditioned to the heavy artillery sounds of Tricky, Portishead, and Massive Attack. Still, I should know better, considering.
In-between fronting Morcheeba, front-woman Edwards has already racked up two solo albums, and is moving onward with a third. Back To Now is Edwards' third installment, and it's off to a delicious start with the single, "Featherlight". From the sound of its dreamy down-tempo first single, Back To Now is sounding to be dressed up in a dazzling gauze of electronic dance. Yet, don't get frightened by the genre label, as this is well, electronic-dance for the sophisticated people, the ones who like to sip their chai tea pinky up. So engrossing is "Featherlight" and its equally-matched glitterdust noir video, that I haven't any hesitation to seek out Back To Now when it drops October 29th.
