Album Watch: See SZA Run

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Think back to oh two months or so ago and SZA came into focus with her debut single, "Country".

Now come back to the present and begin to engage in the further fruits of SZA as she releases her debut freeEP, See.SZA.Run, and entranced I am by this 7-track atmospheric journey.

I noted that "Country" was bold in some places yet gentile in others, and the same can be said for the aural pleasures residing here. What is so intriguing about this set it that though the tracks show their angst on their lyrical sleeve, the serenity of them flows through with great ease.

Throughout SZA reflects with conviction, lounging her rich vocal tone over such cloud drifts like "Euphraxia" and "Bed". Those two joints just stun on opening, and their gorgeous density almost overshadows the rest of the EP for me (sans "Country, which is still boss), but in the end, this set rests nicely in with other "moody R&B" releases of this year and is sure to find itself among my favorite moments. There is no right or wrong way to properly enjoy this aural wanderlust, do as you please (roll some papers, pour some wine, light the incense, etc.) but just make sure you see (and hear) SZA run.
