Audio Vision: Catching The Holiday Spirit With Mariah Carey, Jimmy Fallon & The Roots

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Stop doing what you were doing and drop the Grinch attitude. This will be the most adorable thing you will see all day. Maybe all week.

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas if I didn't hear Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" at least once...or twice...or a million times...and with the "Extra Festive version" thrown in about five...okay, ten times. It's just the gift that keeps on giving year after year and if I go without hearing it during the holiday season...I'm lost.

As a sweet treat, Carey popped up on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, to bring about some holiday cheer in possibly the most saccharine-rot-your-teeth way possible. I mean, when you've got The Roots decked out in twee Christmas sweaters, jamming out on Playskool instruments, and adorable little school children popping up to sing the refrains, how can it feel as if you indulged in a platter of holiday fudge and cookies and then guzzled it all down with some egg nog? Still that's what the holidays are all about --- just putting aside the bullcrap of life and being completely corny as Hallmark Channel movie, and catching the spirit.

...and might I just add that Mariah's voice sounds quite exceptional, and that I really heart her, Jimmy, and The Roots for pulling this together.
