Recycle It!: Simply Beautiful, Mara Hruby

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

I know full well that Mara Hruby is capable of spinning out her own style on remakes, as two years ago she released her From Her Eyes EP and covered the likes of Jamiroquai and Van Hunt with superb force.

Hruby is in the process of releasing a full-length album, but to give a little celebration of the anniversary of her debut EP, she gives us the gift of "Simply Beautiful" which is (you guess it) another cover, and this time she's giving the Reverend Al Green a little lovin' tribute.

Though I'm expecting Miss Hruby to release an album of original material to hear what she's got to say, I do love the fact that she takes on these originally male-sung songs and puts a female spin on them. Though anybody in the world could sing Green's 1972 classic (which happens to be a favorite of mine from him), Hruby's delicate touch shines one of the most honest love songs in existence in a brand-new light. Even though it's just Hruby's vocals melting in with acoustic guitars, there is a lot of magic sparking here. To further the good news, "Simply Beautiful" is up for a free don't hesitate, just snatch n' grab and kick back to let the beautiful sounds of Mara Hruby take flight.
