Artist Watch: Ego Ella May
Wednesday, March 20, 2013
I say, if you've captured the attention of Omar, then you're pretty much winning. Still the music has to speak for itself, and though the Neo Soul veteran dubbed her as an artist to keep an eye out for, Ego Ella May's interpretation of futuristic soul does talk the talk, and walk the walk of such a claim.
Hailing from London town, the singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist, properly introduces herself with The Tree, a six-track EP that she's completely rooted in. Her penchant for sonic soul fusions are on full display as she pulls out hypnotic pieces like the saccharine "Rush Hour Crush" as well as tempts with a symphonic cinematic ballad in the guise of the lament "Waiting". She even dabbles a bit in abstract Jazz and hints at some Baduizms as heard on the partial spoken-word track, "Pay My Bills". In all of these eclectic intersections she excels, and puts out one of the more enchanting and engrossing EP's I've heard this year. Seriously, I dare you to put this on and not get submerged. To experience The Tree and Ego Ella May's sublime artistry take in the stream below as well take advantage of the guilt-free download at this link. [H/T: SC]
