blew my 2012 out of the water and I'm glad that more people will get to hear its sheer brilliance in a month's time. Still, my question is: what is Ware doing differently to tweak the album for American ears?
Surprisingly, everything from the original Devotion is intact. Well, aside from new album art, "110%" titled renamed to "If You're Never Gonna Move", and an A$AP Rocky feature on a "Wildest Moments" remix (as remember, us Americans will not listen to any album unless one rapper is present)....and oh, a brand new song!
Julio Bashmore is once again behind the production wheel of "Imagine It Was Us", a glossy trip the light disco-inspired number that is feisty, stark, and energetic, and has nestled its way onto the latter half of Devotion's original tracklist. 'Energetic' is a word not readily seen when describing Ware, yet "Imagine It Was Us" is probably the most spirited Ware has ever sounded. Her ditching the serene sophisticated pop-soul she's noted for has her sitting down at the lunch table with such modern disco queens like Roisin Murphy and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and she fits right in. In fact, Ware doing zesty dance numbers like this has me itching for her and Bashmore to try this out on a full set...but I dare to dream.
Kick the acoustics below (and ignore the stupid tagging).
