Swimming With Mutya, Keisha and Siobhán

Seems like 2013 is shaping up to be the year of the comeback kids as the original line-up of the saucy Brit girl group Sugababes are back together again. Now dubbing themselves after their namesakes, Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy poked and prodded at a reunion for some odd years now, but they made it official when they dropped a 'just for fun' retooling of Kendrick Lamar's "Swimming Pools (Drank)" last week.
Dubbing it "Lay Down In Swimming Pools" it's 2001 all over again, as they take to task Lamar's set-up and exert the right amount of energy and smoothness, making for an electric mix. I didn't realize how much I missed Mutya's voice (I might have been the only person who wanted her to follow-up her underrated 2007 debut, Real Girl) till her smoky drawl kicked in, but I'm so happy to hear it again as it harmonizes alongside the vocal styles of Keisha and Siobhán.
The ladies are taken care of by Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes) on production, whom we all know worked producing wizardry for Solange (True) and Sky Ferreria ("Everything Is Embarrassing") last year. Turns out Hynes is producing and handling several cuts on MKS' upcoming album. Talk about a smart move, ladies! In addition to Hynes, acts like Emeli Sandé, Cameron McVey, William Orbit, and MNEK are also penciled in as producers and songwriters for the upcoming effort, and from that listing of power players and how on-point Mutya, Keshia, and Siobhán sound, it's obvious to me that MKS' resurgence will definitely be a strong one.
