Yes, I Still Care, D'Angelo and Questlove

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

All the uncouth and unlucky people, like yours truly, missed the hottest ticket this week. What we missed was something called the Brooklyn Bowl where a impromptu performance from the mystical soul soothsayer D'Angelo and drumming ace Questlove occurred leaving jaws on floors and jealous ones steaming over not catching this Haley's Comet moment. Forming their 'Brothers In Arms' alliance, D took to the keys and vocal duties while Q (who's releasing a pretty kick ass looking memoir this year) drummed away, the two churning out some of D's signature slices as well as cooked up some refashions of classic cuts from the likes of Bobby Womack, The Ohio Players, and Funkadelic, among others. We can all be thankful for the Internets as the cats over at Okayplayer captured a sizzling performance of them giving a little spin on one of my favorite S.O.S Band's songs, "Tell Me If You Still Care" and the performance is all-around swoon-worthy and has pretty much slapped a smile on my face.

For those of you thinking: "Yeah, yeah, this is great and all, but I want a new D'Angelo album NOW!!!", word is that when Questlove questioned about the mirage that is D's long-anticipated third album, D responded that the album we all thought was the ultimate fever dream of 2012 is in fact complete...and with a wave of his hat, D'Angelo got back on his magic carpet and flew away, to only be seen again when two Sons of Adam and two Daughters of Eve fill the four thrones at Cair Paravel...

....or so I assume.
