It's been said, but I'll repeat it: This new Daft Punk album is gonna be all kinds of supercalifragelistic epic.
Random Access Memories will touch down from the mother ship of the electronic Gods this May 21st, but the chromatic robotic duo aren't done teasing, poking and screwing us up in a tizzy over what to expect from the long-anticipated set. Snippet of single, "Get Lucky" was released (and looped out of desperation), a super disco ball shimmering "ad" premiered during SNL last weekend, and now the album's tracklisting was revealed on Vine today --- and all of it has been smartly well-timed. Still, do these cats know I got a blood pressure and wonky stress levels to worry about? Do they know how much they are making this anticipation unbearable?
Toting the big bazookas the duo are for Random Access Memories as not only are the duo shedding the usual sampling and drum machines for more live instrumentation and slicker funk throwbacks, they have enlisted an elite roster of producers to help with crafting the set. Three of my all-time favorite producers --- Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, and the electronic godfather himself, Giorgio Moroder --- have already been announced for the project, and in a neat, total music nerd move, all three sat down and have discussed their involvement in making the album and their careers during a series of very informational videos. One thing is for certain, all three are committed to bringing the groove back to dance music, because we all know it's forgotten itself over the last couple of years or so. Now, if I wasn't already slobbering over this album, I'm gonna need a big o' basin and a bib because the saliva is getting ridiculous over here.
So much great music nerdery to view and engage in after the cut.
