Giving Luv To Teedra Moses
Friday, April 19, 2013
Teedra Moses seemed to always draw the short straw when it came to her career, as since her fantastic 2004 debut, Complex Simplicity, she's had to endure her record label, TVT Records, folding from under her feet and found herself unfairly tossed in Mixtape Siberia. Perseverance has done Ms. Moses good, as even in the midst of record label clusterfucks she still maintained a steady flow of music, albeit it was hard to catch 'em all like Pokemon. Last I talked about Moses was back in 2011 when she released the mixtape, Luxurious Undergrind, and though it was a strong collection, the future of where Moses was going was shaky at best.
So now Moses had a fresh stalk of aural celery out and is (still) trying to release that follow-up to Complex Simplicity, but I can't help but latch onto her feeling of optimism as "Can't Be Luv" continues to make her a mighty contender. Adopting more of a gritty Pop-Rock feel, "Can't Be Luv" Moses charting newer sound territory, but she's still just as soulful and as compelling as ever, and actually, the song is quite delish. I've already had three helpings of it at post time, and foresee future repeats.
"Can't Be Luv" will have a home on the soon-to-be-released The Empress Pride Collection (a title that so sounds like some fancy hair care products you'd find at Sally's Beauty Supply), which is (hopefully) arriving June 25th. I'm already crossing my fingers and toes for it, wishing her the best.
