In The Key Of Classic 12" Mariah
Tuesday, May 28, 2013
In the darken corners of my Internet past I used to *sigh* own a Mariah Carey fan club site. Was pretty diligent with it as it grew off a Xanga page (remember that relic?!) and formulated into a full-fledged Tripod domain (remember that dinosaur hosting service!?) that was all sparkly, pink, and *cringe* had music playing when you opened it --- just the way a Mariah Carey fan site should look and feel, thank you much. Well, we get better as we get older, but one of the things I learned during my website building puberty is that you can never have enough Mariah Carey remixes --- and the older and longer the better.
During the time of running the site I collected an obscene amount of remixes to points where my hard drive was calling for a truce, and though I've trimmed down my collection in recent years, remixes from the Mama Lamb camp are still pretty precious to me and nary a bad one have I met. So when I came across DJ Josh Peace's freebie mixtape I was immediately transported to bliss. Made back in 1999, Peace fused together a fantastic compilation of Mariah's greatest classics, ripped from vinyls, and refashioned 12" style by some of the great remixers from my youth, notably David Morales, Junior Vasquez, and Clivillés & Cole of C&C Music Factory. This mixtape is no joke. It's nostalgic 90's House music nirvana and it's making me feel all kinds of emotions, deeper than I ever dreamed of. Check it out.
