Amel Larrieux Isn't Afraid

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

It's been a spell since we've heard from  Amel Larrieux after she left us hanging in 2007 with her love letter to vintage jazz, Lovely Standards. In a twist of pleasant surprises Ms. Larrieux has popped back up again and with song in tow.

The wait has been worth it as she comes on strong with "Afraid" a fizzy soul track that feels brisk and summery and fits the melodic prose about all the uncertain euphoria that comes when meeting that one special someone who just throws you for a loop at first sight. No word on if it'll be included on Larrieux's long-awaited fourth set, Ice Cream Everyday, but I'm sure hoping it will be.

If things sound familiar, Larrieux has performed "Afraid" as far back as January of last year, but now the spiffed up studio version is out and available for download, and it's a real mood booster. Take it from me, I'm now all smiles.
