In a crowd of few I was that actually enjoyed the turns John Legend took in Evovler. As much as I do appreciate his penchant for sultry piano confessionals, Legend trying to electrify his sound was welcomed immensely by me. With his Love In The Future coming this September, the songs that have debuted ("Who Do You Think We Are", "Chasing Your Love", and "The Beginning") were melodic safe ventures into Legend of album's past, but didn't do much to push him further. So along comes "Made To Love" and albeit it's a bit more shaken and stirred, thanks to the production quality of Kanye West who incorporates tribal percussion and hand claps (a la "Love Lockdown") into a sparse sauce of brooding synths. This is the kind of ambitious direction I wanted Legend to stride into. Here's hoping he keeps it up for the remainder of Love In The Future.
