Artist Watch: Body Language

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Intuition is a powerful thing. I have moments were I know, just know, I'm going to like an artist or a song just by a quick glance, maybe even just hearing a snippet of audio. Somehow I knew I was going to like Body Language, a freshly fun outfit out of Brooklyn, and that I did, and things kept getting better as I rifled through their SoundCloud page and completely falling for their kaleidoscopic synth-pop panache. Now, you know me, I love my synths and my 80's homages, and Body Language check off all items, dot all i's and cross all t's when it comes to creating a vibe that recalls British New Wave and crunchy funk-soul from the decade of day-glo and greed. Yet, these four still sound in the element of now as tracks like "Lose My Head" (my favorite) and "The Chasing" would find themselves perfectly at home among the millennial strobe lights.

After releasing their first two albums, Speaks and Social Studies a few years back, the band are about to go for another round of smart synth-matics as their Grammar EP (which is available for free download) is being expanded into a full-fledged album that will arrive this September 10th. Their newest instant jam "Well Absolutely" has already made an appearance and garnered a positive impression from me, further noting that the fun is just beginning for us when it comes to this quirky and savvy quartet.
