The Apple Of VV Brown's Eye
Tuesday, August 13, 2013
It's always good to see an artist expand horizons, but awhile back VV Brown had me scratching my head over her single "Samson" and it's macabre music video. The whole thing was a real 'you had to be there' type of deal, as it was artsy and down-right bonkers as it flew completely over my head, but VV's newest single, "The Apple" is something I can chew and swallow on, and chew again. Of course upon first listen some serious Grace Jones' game lept out at me with VV taking her vocals down a register as she spreads a booming alto over a pulsating synth beat...and well, that's a good thing. I'm glad to see some Grace Jones influence that isn't in the form of her iconic fashion style as Miss Jones had some great and experimental classics that people seem to forget or write off as novelty. "The Apple" isn't "Slave To The Rhythm", but VV's change of pace is worthwhile and bears repeated listens as it is a killer of a summer jam. I wasn't so sure before but I think I'm ready for the mutation of VV Brown as it all will soon be unveiled when the Samson & Delilah project drops on October 8th.
