Whinnie Williams Pays Those 'Bills Bills Bills'
Wednesday, September 4, 2013
What do you get when you mix Destiny's Child 1999 hit "Bills, Bills, Bills" with Françoise Hardy's 1962 classic, "Le Temps de l'Amour"? Easy. You get a witty re-fix that is itching for replays, that's what. Responsible for this mutant mash is Briton singer-songwriter Whinnie Williams. Williams used to go by the nom de plum of Sunday Girl and released a sizable amount of loose tracks and even penned a co-write for Madonna (last year's "Turn Up The Radio") during her tenure.
Now Williams has put a lid on the Sunday Girl project and is reinventing herself, and she's off to a pretty good start as original number, the sugary '60s sweet "Break Hearts In Your Sleep" coasted in a month ago. Considering she has done revamps before (see a brooding take on Laura Branigan's "Self Control" and MGMT's "Time To Pretend" for examples), this one is just as interesting, even more so as French Pop and late-'90s R&B do actually make for a très bien mix. Who would've thunk?
